The Kenya Police are investigating the cause of a blast that occurred this morning outside a restaurant in downtown Nairobi.
Following the blast, police have sealed off parts of Moi Avenue and Tom Mboya Street. The number of casualties is yet to be established, but preliminary reports indicate that one person has died and several have been injured.
The Police Commissioner Maj. Gen Hussein Ali, who is scheduled to hold a press conference shortly, has asked the media as well as the public to desist from speculation, as the investigations would establish the facts.
At the same time, the Ministry of Health has set up emergency blood donation centres at the Reinsurance Plaza grounds (opposite Uchumi House/ Nairobi cinema) and the Cooperative House (the former US Embassy/ bomb blast site) and at the Kenyatta National Hospital.
